The short version#
Ordinary ChatGPT can't dial a phone. It needs a supported Bland integration first. After you add the Bland connector in developer mode and sign in, ChatGPT gains a set of Bland tools it can call from inside a chat. The plan supplies a dedicated US local number. Calls use that number, while the read tools access your Bland workspace.
Place outbound calls#
You ask ChatGPT in plain language, and it uses Bland's create_call tool to dial out from your number. A typical ask looks like this:
Call +1 415 555 0123, introduce yourself as my assistant, and ask what time they close today.create_call is a destructive tool, which means it asks for your confirmation before it dials. You see what ChatGPT is about to do and approve it. When the call ends, ChatGPT comes back and tells you what happened, whether you asked it to call a business, confirm a detail, or chase down an answer.
Read call logs and transcripts#
Through Bland's read tools, ChatGPT can pull your call logs and transcripts. So after a call you can ask things like "what did they say on my last call?" and ChatGPT reads the transcript and analysis back to you, pulls out the one detail you needed, or summarizes a long call into a few lines. Because the same tools expose transcripts, ChatGPT can reason over several past calls, not just the most recent one.
Pull analytics#
Beyond single calls, ChatGPT can read analytics about your calling through the connection. That lets you ask for a read on how your calls are going over time instead of opening the dashboard yourself. It's the same data your account already holds, surfaced in the chat where you're already working.
Work with agents and pathways#
The connection also reaches your Bland agents and pathways. ChatGPT can list them and work with them, so if you already build reusable agents in Bland, you can ask ChatGPT to find the right one or report on which pathways have no published version. If you gave the connector write access by leaving Create and change your agents checked at sign-in, ChatGPT can also create and change agents. If you made a read-only connection by unchecking that box, ChatGPT can read your workspace but not change it, and it will ask you to grant write access the first time it needs it.
What it does not do on its own#
ChatGPT doesn't text or receive calls by itself. Those capabilities live on your Bland number, not inside ChatGPT. Over a sign-in connection, the purchase tools aren't offered, so ChatGPT can't buy the plan or credits for you. You do that in the Bland dashboard, then let ChatGPT use what the purchase unlocked.
The limits to keep in mind#
The plan is subject to fair use and a few hard caps:
- One active call at a time
- Up to 20 calls per hour and 50 calls per day
- Up to 1,000 call minutes per day
- Up to 60 minutes per outbound call
- Up to 20 texts per hour and 100 texts per day
- Calls and texts are limited to US and Canadian numbers
