What Grok Bot can do with its own phone number
With its own Bland number, Grok Bot can call businesses to run errands, send and answer texts toward a goal, and take incoming calls on the same line.
Once Grok Bot has its own number through Bland's AI phone number plan, it can call a business on your behalf, ask a question, and report back to you. It can send and answer texts on the same line, working toward a goal you set, and it can take incoming calls on the number it dials out from. This post is published by Bland. Errands it can run by phone#
Grok Bot runs on its own cloud computer and takes tasks like a teammate. With a phone number attached, those tasks can reach the phone world. The AI phone number plan shows the kind of errands you can hand it:
- Request a table for two on Friday at 7
- Request a dentist appointment change
- Check if the pharmacy is open
- Ask about a delivery window
- Ask about a late checkout
- Ask about haircut availability
- Call the vet about a refill
You ask Grok Bot to request a table, check an appointment, or call a business with a question. It calls the front desk, asks about availability, and reports back to you. You prompt it the way the Bland page shows, for example "Call Trattoria Nove, request a table for two on Friday at 7, and report back with availability," and it dials out from your dedicated number. If you have not set it up yet, start with how to give your Grok Bot its own phone number.
Two-way texting toward a goal#
Texting requires the Agent Phone Plan, because the agent needs its own number to text from, as the Personal AI Agents docs explain. On the plan, a text is a conversation, not a one-off message. You give Grok Bot the goal when you ask it to text, and when the other side replies, Bland answers from the agent's number automatically toward that goal.
You give an instruction like this:
Text the salon at +1 415 555 0123, ask about haircut availability next Tuesday afternoon and the price, and report back.Behind that, Grok Bot starts the thread with one send and passes your goal as the conversation's objective. Bland then answers every reply in that conversation from the agent's number, staying on the objective. The objective belongs to that one conversation. A conversation started without one is answered from the number's generic texting prompt instead, which is why giving the goal matters. You can also text Grok Bot yourself with a question or a task and get updates on the same dedicated line.
Incoming calls on the same number#
Grok Bot can take incoming calls on the same number it uses to make them, so people can reach your agent directly. Inbound minutes count against the same daily allowance as outbound ones.
The limits#
The plan is built for one agent doing one thing at a time, and the caps reflect that:
- One active call at a time, counted across your whole account, inbound and outbound combined
- Up to 20 calls per hour and 50 calls per day
- Up to 1,000 call minutes per day, inbound and outbound combined, resetting at midnight UTC
- Up to 60 minutes per outbound call
- Up to 20 texts per hour and 100 texts per day
- Outbound calls, transfers, and SMS destinations are limited to the US and Canada
What it can't do#
Outbound calls, transfers, and SMS destinations are limited to the US and Canada. It also can't run two calls at once. Concurrency is one active call across your whole account, inbound and outbound combined. While your agent is on a call, a new inbound caller hears a busy message and a new outbound call is rejected until the first one ends. If you need several calls in parallel, more numbers, or higher volume, Bland points you to a Build or Scale plan instead.
On free credits, before you start the plan, Grok Bot can still call out from a shared Bland number, but it has no dedicated number and can't text, since texting needs the plan. To have Grok Bot sign itself up and pay for the plan, see how Grok Bot signs up for its own Bland number.
