How to give your Grok Bot its own phone number

Grok Bot can make phone calls once it joins Bland's Agent Phone Plan, which adds a dedicated US number for calls and texts at $14.99 for the first month.

Yes, Grok Bot can make phone calls once you connect it to Bland's AI phone number plan. The plan gives your agent one dedicated US number that it uses to call businesses on your behalf, take incoming calls, and send and receive texts on the same line. This post is published by Bland. What the plan adds to Grok Bot#

Grok Bot works from its own cloud computer, can sign in to your tools, and can use connected tools to come back with finished work. The Agent Phone Plan supplies a dedicated US local number for calls and SMS. It is provisioned when you subscribe, usually right away, though it can stay pending for a few minutes before the number is handed over.

With that number in place, you can ask Grok Bot to call a business and ask a question, request a booking or appointment change, or ask about a detail, and it reports back to you. The same number takes incoming calls, so people can call your agent directly on the line it dials out from. Texting runs on that number too, in both directions. The two setup paths#

Bland works with Claude, Muse, and Grok Bot through their public tools and integrations, and Grok Bot requires a compatible custom MCP connection. The Grok Bot setup docs describe two ways to connect it.

The first path lets Grok Bot set itself up. This needs Stripe Link already connected to Grok Bot with the Link CLI available to it, and link-cli auth login is a one-time step you approve in the Link app. Because Grok Bot can then approve a payment through its own agent wallet, it can sign up for Bland, pay for the first month of the plan, and hand you a working connection without you opening a signup page. Your only manual step is relaying a one-time code by text and approving the charge in the Link app. A companion post, how Grok Bot signs up for its own Bland number, walks through that flow.

The second path is for when you already have a Bland API key. You get a key from the Bland dashboard, then add a custom MCP connection pointing at https://api.bland.ai/v1/mcp with an Authorization: Bearer YOUR_BLAND_API_KEY header. The Bland docs note it is not confirmed that every Grok Bot version can add a custom MCP server URL with an Authorization header, so check that yours supports both before relying on this path. Attach the connection to your task and ask Grok Bot to list your Bland pathways to check that it is authenticated before placing a call.

On the AI phone number plan itself, setup is framed in three steps: choose your AI to see its connection requirements, start the connection and let a compatible agent create your personal signup link, then choose your plan and approve access in Bland. Once your AI confirms the connection, you try your first call or text.

What it costs#

The Agent Phone Plan is $14.99 for your first month, which is 50% off, then $29.99/month. The first-month price applies once per account owner, to your first Agent Phone Plan only; any other purchase is $29.99/month from the start. You are charged when you approve the plan, and you can cancel anytime in Billing, as the plan details spell out. The plan covers the US and Canada, with no per-minute or per-message charges on your included number.

The limits to know#

The plan is built for one agent doing one thing at a time, so "unlimited" is bounded by fair use and a few hard caps:

  • One active call at a time, counted across your whole account, inbound and outbound combined
  • Up to 20 calls per hour and 50 calls per day
  • Up to 1,000 call minutes per day, inbound and outbound combined, resetting at midnight UTC
  • Up to 60 minutes per outbound call
  • Up to 20 texts per hour and 100 texts per day, counting agent replies and API sends together
  • Outbound calls, transfers, and SMS destinations are limited to the US and Canada

If your agent needs to run several calls in parallel, dial outside the US and Canada, or handle higher volume, Bland points you to a Build or Scale plan instead.

The free-credit option#

If you are not ready for a plan, you can start with $2 in free credits instead of subscribing. On free credits, Grok Bot connects through the Bland API and places outbound calls from a shared pool of Bland numbers rather than a dedicated one. Those calls are billed at $0.14 per connected minute, so $2 covers roughly 14 minutes. There is no dedicated number and no texting on free credits, since texting requires the Agent Phone Plan. You can top up credits or add the plan anytime from Billing & Plans.

The Grok Bot phone calls page shows pricing for Grok Bot, and the AI phone number plan sets out the included features and limits. For a comparison with ChatGPT, what ChatGPT can do once it's connected describes its calling and workspace tools, can your AI agent answer its own phone covers incoming calls, and what unlimited calling really means explains the caps.

FAQ#

Can Grok Bot make phone calls?#

Yes. Once it is connected to Bland on the Agent Phone Plan, Grok Bot places outbound calls from your dedicated US number and reports back what happened. On free credits it can still call out, but from a shared Bland number.

How much does giving Grok Bot a number cost?#

The Agent Phone Plan is $14.99 for your first month, then $29.99/month. The first-month price applies once per account owner.

Do I have to subscribe before connecting Grok Bot?#

Choose your AI on the Bland page first and follow its setup path. A compatible agent can generate a signup link, and you choose your plan and approve access in Bland. Opening a chat alone does not connect your AI.

Can Grok Bot take incoming calls too?#

Yes. Your agent can take incoming calls on the same number it uses to make them, as long as it is on the Agent Phone Plan.

Is Bland part of xAI?#

No. Bland isn't affiliated with, partnered with, or endorsed by xAI. Grok Bot is a trademark of its respective owner.
