What Grok Bot can do with a dedicated phone number

With its own Bland number, Grok Bot can call businesses to run errands, send texts toward a goal with Bland answering replies, and take incoming calls on the same line.

Grok Bot is an AI assistant from SpaceXSI, the company behind Grok, that carries out tasks for you. With Bland connected, ask Grok Bot to phone a business, send a text with a goal, and read the results. Bland's voice AI handles the spoken conversation; Bland's texting AI answers text replies.

Bland sells the Agent Phone Plan, a monthly plan that gives an AI assistant one dedicated US local number for calls and texts. Setup, prices, and limits are on Grok Bot phone calls. The Phone with Bland template's compatibility with your Grok Bot version remains unconfirmed here, and Bland's docs require an extra compatibility check without explaining how to perform it. Confirm support for your chosen route before buying the plan.

For developers: what do the documented custom connections need?#

Bland's docs describe two custom connections, using a key you already have or a new-account signup. Both require Grok Bot to accept a server URL and an Authorization header, which carries your key.

Grok Bot also has built-in calling. Elon Musk announced on 25 October 2026 that it can call a person or business and report back. Grok Bot's terms of service say it may place or receive calls. Calls announce that it is a virtual assistant and that the conversation may be recorded. You remain the caller of record, responsible for your calls under those terms. Any number assigned for that feature is temporary and can be reclaimed. We found no published plan, price or country list for that built-in feature.

Bland's plan adds a dedicated US number, SMS texts and a published monthly price. Your agent can take incoming calls on its number, but confirm the incoming-call configuration before relying on callbacks.

What errands can it run?#

You give Grok Bot a request and ask it to report what the business says. Use these requests only with a business that has agreed to receive your AI-assisted call. The Agent Phone Plan gives examples such as these:

  • Ask a restaurant whether it has a table for two on Friday at 7.
  • Ask a salon to change your appointment.
  • Check a pharmacy's opening hours.
  • Ask a delivery company about your delivery window.
  • Ask a hotel whether a late checkout is available.
  • Ask a salon about haircut availability.
  • Ask a veterinary practice what time it opens.

Bland's voice AI makes the requested call and returns a summary for Grok Bot to read. A request can be declined; the business decides whether to offer the table, appointment or other service.

How do I start an errand?#

For a made-up restaurant, Trattoria Nove, you might ask: "Call Trattoria Nove, identify yourself as an AI assistant calling for me, request a table for two on Friday at 7, and report back with availability." Bland dials from your dedicated number. This is an example request, not a test result. If you have not set it up yet, start with Grok Bot phone calls. A comparison of the dedicated number and trying it for free is in ways to put Grok Bot on the phone.

Can it text people back?#

Texting requires the Agent Phone Plan, because your agent needs its own number to text from, as explained in the Personal AI Agents docs. On the plan, a text opens a whole conversation. You give Grok Bot the goal when you ask it to text, and when the other side replies, Bland answers from your agent's number automatically toward that goal.

You give an instruction like this:

text
Text the salon at +1 415 555 0123, ask about haircut availability next Tuesday afternoon and the price, and report back.

Your goal applies to that one text conversation. Bland replies automatically using that goal. Without a goal, Bland follows the number's saved texting instructions, which start out generic on a new number.

For developers: how Grok Bot passes a texting goal#

Grok Bot sends the goal in the text request's objective field. The objective applies to that conversation rather than every text your number receives.

If you text the number yourself, Bland answers using the number's saved texting instructions. Your incoming text does not set a conversation goal.

To start a conversation with a specific goal, ask Grok Bot to send an outgoing text and include what you want that conversation to accomplish.

Can it take calls too?#

Your agent can take calls on its number. The incoming-call setup determines how a caller is answered; the default behavior of a brand-new number remains unconfirmed. Incoming and outgoing minutes share the same daily allowance. A number gives the restaurant somewhere to call back without using your personal phone.

Where do I find setup, limits and the wallet signup?#

Setup, pricing, and limits are on Grok Bot phone calls. The wallet signup details are in how Grok Bot signs up for its own Bland number.
