How to give Meta Muse its own phone number

Meta Muse can make phone calls once connected to Bland on the Agent Phone Plan. Connect Muse through Bland's REST API and get a US number for calls and texts.

Yes, Meta Muse can make phone calls once you connect it to Bland and put it on the AI phone number plan, which gives Muse its own dedicated US number for calls and texts. Muse connects to Bland a little differently from most assistants: it uses Bland's REST API through a custom API connector rather than an MCP endpoint. The result is the same, though. Muse can place calls, send texts, and read the results back to you. This post is published by Bland. Bland isn't affiliated with, partnered with, or endorsed by Meta.

How Muse connects to Bland#

Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, available on iOS, Android, the web, and WhatsApp. It connects to services three ways: built-in connectors, API credentials you provide for any service with a public API, and a browser running on its Secure VM. Muse doesn't list MCP servers among those, so it works with Bland through the REST API. Every request uses the base URL https://api.bland.ai and an Authorization: Bearer header carrying your API key.

There are two ways to set it up, depending on whether you already have a Bland account.

Option 1: you already have a Bland API key#

Muse supports custom API connectors. Ask Muse to connect Bland, then enter your API key from the dashboard through its secure credential prompt. A prompt like this works:

text
Connect to Bland, the phone-calling API. The base URL is https://api.bland.ai and every request needs an Authorization: Bearer header with my API key. Ask me to enter the key through your secure credential prompt. Read https://docs.bland.ai/platform/agent-quickstart to learn how to place a call and read the transcript.

Once it's connected, ask it to make a call:

text
Call +1 415 555 0123, introduce yourself as my assistant, and ask what time they close today.

To give Muse its own number, so it can receive calls and send texts, subscribe to the Agent Phone Plan at Billing & Plans. The plan provisions a US number within a few seconds. Then ask "what's my Bland phone number?" and Muse reads it from your account and uses it from then on.

Option 2: let Muse set itself up#

If you don't have an account yet, Muse can go through Bland's link-based device flow. This path requires Muse to make HTTP requests, poll for approval, and save the returned key as a Bland credential. If those capabilities aren't available, create your account in the dashboard and use Option 1 instead.

Some assistants can skip the browser step entirely by paying with their own agent wallet. Muse doesn't have a payment credential it can present on your behalf, so this link-based flow is the only self-setup path available to it. That's different from the self-setup you may have read about for other agents in how an AI agent signs itself up for a phone number.

To start it, tell Muse:

text
Read https://docs.bland.ai/platform/connect-your-agent and get yourself a Bland phone number. Show me the link and code when you have them. Once approved, save the API key you receive as your Bland credential and read https://docs.bland.ai/platform/agent-quickstart, then call me at +1 415 555 0123 to confirm it works.

If Muse starts the device flow, it shows you a link and a short code. Open the link, sign up or sign in, then either start the Agent Phone Plan or continue with free credits, and approve the request. After Muse retrieves the API key, and its phone number if you chose the plan, confirm that it saved the credential and completed the connection before you ask it to call or text. The key is scoped to a new organization that belongs to you, and you can revoke it any time from Settings > API Keys.

What Muse can do once connected#

With the connection live, you ask Muse in plain language and it drives Bland for you:

  • "Call +1 ... and ask ..." places an outbound call from Muse's Bland number and returns the transcript and summary when it ends.
  • "Text +1 ... saying ..." sends an SMS from Muse's Bland number. Replies are answered automatically, so set the number's texting prompt first or provide a conversation objective.
  • "What did they say on my last call?" reads back the transcript and analysis.

Texting needs the Agent Phone Plan, because Muse needs its own number to text from. When the other side replies, Bland answers from Muse's number automatically using the conversation objective, or the number's texting prompt if no objective was supplied. For the fuller picture of two-way texting, see how to give your AI agent a number that can send texts, and for inbound calls on the same number, can your AI agent answer its own phone.

Keep approval in your hands#

Muse follows your approval settings, and permissions can persist for a task, a site, or future actions. If you want confirmation before calls, texts, or spending, configure those actions to require approval, and Muse checks with you before it dials or spends.

What it costs and the limits#

The Agent Phone Plan is $14.99 for your first month, which is 50% off, then $29.99/month. The first-month price applies to your first Agent Phone Plan, once per account owner. It includes a US local number and unlimited US and Canada calls and SMS subject to fair use (one call at a time across your account, 20 calls an hour, 50 a day, 1,000 call minutes a day, 60 minutes max per outbound call, and 20 texts an hour, 100 a day, to US and Canada numbers only), and you can cancel anytime in Billing & Plans. Without the plan, Muse connects on $2 of free credits, calls from a shared Bland number at $0.14 per connected minute, and can't text.

These limits apply across your account. More on the costs is in what it costs to give an AI agent a phone number in 2026, and on the caps in what unlimited calling means on an agent phone plan. Setting up a different assistant instead? Compare with how to give Claude its own phone number and how to give your Grok Bot its own phone number.

Pricing for Muse specifically lives on the Meta Muse phone calls page, and the AI phone number plan describes the included number and usage limits. If you run other assistants too, it helps to read what Grok Bot can do with a number of its own, how Grok Bot signs itself up with Bland, and what ChatGPT can do once it's connected.

FAQ#

Can Meta Muse make phone calls?#

Yes. Once Muse is connected to Bland and on the Agent Phone Plan, it places outbound calls from your dedicated US number and reports back what happened. On free credits it can still call out, but from a shared Bland number.

Does Muse use MCP?#

No. Muse doesn't list MCP servers among its connection types, so it works with Bland through the REST API using a custom API connector with an Authorization Bearer header.

Can Muse sign itself up and pay for the plan?#

Muse can go through Bland's link-based device flow, where you open a link and approve, but it doesn't have a payment credential it can present on your behalf, so the link flow is its only self-setup path.

Can Muse send texts?#

Yes, on the Agent Phone Plan, which gives Muse its own number to text from. Replies use the conversation objective, or the number's texting prompt if no objective was supplied.

Is Bland part of Meta?#

No. Bland isn't affiliated with, partnered with, or endorsed by Meta.
