How Corgi uses Bland to scale compliant insurance calls
“Insurance is an extremely regulated industry, and Bland was the only provider that we were confident had the guardrails to ensure that our regulatory needs were met.”
The Challenge
Corgi set out to give startups insurance that is better, faster, and cheaper than what legacy carriers offer. Founders can get a quote in minutes and bind a policy the same day, where the old process could take two to four weeks. Since receiving regulatory approval as a licensed carrier in July 2025, Corgi has grown quickly, raising more than $370 million in the first half of 2026.
More policyholders means more phone calls. Customers call with questions about their coverage, and even more often about claims. Corgi fields thousands of policy and claims calls every day.
Every one of those calls carries regulatory weight. An agent that misstates coverage or mishandles a claim creates real exposure for a carrier. That made Corgi cautious about handing calls to AI systems whose outputs can't be fully predicted.
"Because we're a very regulated industry, the highest quality is necessary on those calls," said Nico Laqua, CEO and Co-founder of Corgi. "So initially, we were quite suspicious of nondeterministic solutions."
Corgi needed a voice AI platform with strict guardrails, consistently high call quality, stable production performance, and full control over the models running each call.
The Solution
Corgi evaluated several voice AI providers. Bland stood out on the two things Corgi cared about most: handling complex insurance conversations and meeting its regulatory requirements.
"We found that Bland handled our complex use case and our regulatory needs better than any other provider," Nico said.
The deciding factor was control. Most voice AI platforms send calls through third-party model providers, which means the platform can't fully govern how those models behave. Bland self-hosts its entire stack and runs its own proprietary models, so it can enforce guardrails at every layer of the call. Bland's FedRAMP certification gave Corgi further confidence that its security standards would hold up.
The Outcome
Bland's team had Corgi fully integrated and running in production within a couple of days, and calls performed reliably from the start.
"I've been blown away by Bland's integration time," Nico said. "It was only a couple days to get up and running, and things have been working extremely well."
Today, Bland powers thousands of Corgi's calls every day. Corgi has shifted almost all of its call infrastructure to Bland, and its policyholders get fast, accurate answers about their policies and claims without waiting on a human agent.
Corgi is just getting started. As it adds new coverage lines and expands into new markets, its call volume will keep climbing, and Bland is built to grow with it.
"I see us scaling this to a very large extent," he said. "I think we'll go from thousands of calls per day to, hopefully, millions, and I can't think of a better partner than Bland to handle that."
